Biology Studies Come Alive at Chesterton Academy!
Our students have had several memorable experiences in their biology studies already this quarter. Students enjoyed an ourdoor ecology field trip, learning all about the longleaf pine ecosystem that encompasses much of the southeast region of the United States. After prayer led by Mr. Johnson, our biology teacher, Mrs. Cathey, led students on a nature walk through the woods, teaching them about native plants and the unique interplay of soil, plants, and animals in this ecosystem. Students enjoyed a picnic lunch and a refreshing wade through a spring-fed sandy-bottom creek. We even had a spirited yaupon-holley gathering competition (congrats, West House!). It was a beautiful day to enjoy and discover the beauty of God's creation.
Soon after, students had their most captivating, hands-on biology lab so far! After several weeks learning about the cardiovascular system and memorizing the parts of the heart in detail, students got to dissect sheep hearts, marveling at their intricacies literally in the flesh!
